Merry stode on the border of the Old Forest. He knew of its dangers and why he shouldn't go in. He had been told by many; his parents, his grandparents, and just about all of the wise members of Buckland.
He kicked the fence that seperated him from it and wondered why he wouldn't just go in. He had been in before. Nothing went wrong then. However he felt the urge to have someone there to go with him. He felt the urge to not go in alone. It was a strange feeling, not possessed by him before, but it was there inside him. He sat on the fence and awaited the day to pass, kicking the fence each time his foot swung back. A cloud passed over the sun, covering him in shadow.
